Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Don't know who to vote for in the Euro elections?

Try the EU profiler site.
It asks you a series of questions about your political views, then analyses your answers. It then shows you where you are on the political spectrum and which parties match your political outlook. You may be surprised at the findings...I was.

Hi perdeep.
I said the same thing.
Duck islands and democracy

Tonight at 7.30 pm: Your chance to meet n' grill real live candidates in the June 4 Election, at the only Euro Election Hustings in Haringey.

We have insisted on votable candidates, rather than mere spokespeople. Not all parties will be represented at our hustings. There are a total of 14 parties and 5 independents standing for election but the confirmations we have received are:

Christian Peoples Alliance — Petar Ljubisic
English Democrats — Roger Cooper
Green Party — Ute Michel
Jury Team — Reza Tabrizi
Labour Party — Emma Jones
Liberal Democrats — Jonathon Fryer
Pro Democracy Libertas — Susannah Prins
Socialist Party of Great Britain — James William Martin

So, whether or not you have decided how you will vote, the broad representation ought to provide food for thought. You are welcome to attend and participate in the extensive question and answer session.

Methodist Church, Middle Lane N8

Listed as an Event on HoL.

.
The fact that the Conservatives are not represented gives food for thought.
Hi John, both the UKIP and Conservative parties were not able to confirm attendance of actual candidates at the time of drawing up the above list (rather than a spokesman or spokeswoman). My understanding is that the Conservative party is still endeavouring to field a European election candidate for this evening's hustings. For latest information on the line-up, call Mario Petrou on 020 8352 1020.
What is currently going-on with GM in Europe is a prime example of why the UK won't be better off if it opts-out of the EU.

The U.K. hasn't been sitting at the top table (whether invited or not I don't know), but decisions which effect the country and it's workers are being made without the government having any input. Instead of being pro-active, whinging is seen as the best course of action to take.. Why hasn't any British minister come to Germany..? or can't the UK government afford to invest in Vauxhall or doesn't it want to?

This is exactly what would happen all time, if the UK were 'OUT' - I presume that the UK will want to continue it's trading with the 'REST EU' after leaving. The EU is of course the UK's largest trading market and it will set trading standards and other requirements without the UK being at the top table.. You'd be chopping off your noses - be aware of that!

Or perhaps British MPs or oppositon MPs just don't have time at the moment? I hazard a guess that visiting the accountant is currently higher up the MP's to-do-lists..
Well done Tom.

I was considering voting Green for the first time in my life but this article in the Times has convinced me otherwise.

Honestly, we have Christian parties, are scientists so lacking in conviction that we can't have a rational/scientific party?

No way are the Tories getting my vote for this election - simply because it's about Europe and they want to be in with the anti-gay right wing nutters that nobody really likes.
Thanks for that, John. Just like you, I'd planned to vote green, but having read that article I can't give them a vote. Stupidly, I'd always assumed that The Greens' policies would always fall somewhere between great and harmless, so I'd never really bothered to read up on them.
Yes, thanks for the tip about the article. Having been wavering too I have also now scuttled back to a more conventional party ... Very off-putting.
Yup. I read the same thing yesterday and was considering a vote for the Greens before that.

I am shocked that profiler thing put Tories above Labour for me - shows I either can't be as an indoctrinated Old Labour raised child as I thought or the Labour Party has moved far far away from my political upbringing. Still no way the Tories are getting my vote though.

Has anyone here received any leaflets from any party other than the Lib Dems? I'm annoyed that none of the other parties seem to even care about my vote enough to actually do some local campaigning.
Along with lots of other sensible, intelligent people, I would only consider voting for the Tories if they weren't the Tories.
This one was something different a couple of weeks ago - I have to say I only looked over it once to check it wasn't a BNP leaflet.
I'm no expert on policies in this election but the profiler says the Conservatives are:

- same-sex marriages - completely agree with
- Foreign policy- Europe should speak with one voice
- UK is much better off in EU - completely agree.

Are the Conservatives really anti-gay and anti- Europe ? Doesn't sound like it.
Still waiting for any election literature from them though.
