Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

..that Tottenham Tories are so desperate to sneak through your letterbox under the guise of, well, anything that doesn't look like Tory propaganda, that they are prepared to hijack the Guardian's trademark font? Come on Haringey Conservatives, couldn't you afford a PR/ad guru this year to tell you that 'passing off' does not endear you to voters, even if, by some misadventure, they believe the content.

Come on, surely you should credit that the reader will not be taken in. We can spot that this is a fake from a mile off. No self respecting Tory would make the trademark grammatical or smelling errors that the grauniad would make...? This will be perfectly subbed, with apostrophes in the right place, etc.

Actually I find right wingers to be the worst and most prickly when confronted spellers. Always bringing out some excuse and failing to acknowledge that their message is just missing a little effort because they don't give a crap about the receiver.

Yes, I just got spell chuckled at by a brand new Tory on a different thread.

Well actually Lydia puts a lot of effort into her posts so, she's off the hook.

It's interesting that some people feel the need to do that though. It's an attempt the ridicule and is pathetic. Something for a brand new thread.

Um, Sharon, your first reply to Lydia started with

lydia, you dont seem to know what you are talking about

Now you say:

It's interesting that some people feel the need to do that though. It's an attempt the ridicule and is pathetic.

You weren't beginning the most courteous or perhaps serious of political debates with your response to Lydia, were you?
Fair cop. Back to the naughty step. The spell checking thing happens a lot and IS an issue. It is rude and IS an attempt to ridicule. It's not as if we are writing essays here...its isolating and off putting.

If someone is on the attack with poor grammar/spelling then I object. If they're not then it's fine.

I agree that spell-checking others' posts is normally unnecessary and rather rude, but in this case I think you rather asked for a rejoinder of some sort from Lydia. If you'd politely and constructively made your point, and Lydia had responded the way she did, I'd have pointed up her response.

It's also interesting Hugh, who you choose to police on HOL and who you don't. On a Hol rude scale, I don't think my post was any more rude than another on that thread. Reading Lydia's initial post, she didn't seem to know what she was talking about regarding our brilliant schools and she chose to pull out the spell check card to avoid the discussion. English teacher? So what?...

I don't choose to 'police' anyone, Sharon. Sadly, I don't have time to read everything that gets written. So I just respond to the things I do see, if I have time.

Anyone who wants to avoid my 'policing' can do so by being being courteous at all times on HoL. Disagree, by all means. Go ahead and be challenging, but, please any/everyone, be civil.

Yes I believe the Guardian are fully aware of it and have even mentioned Justin in dispatches
