Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This from the Haringey Independent.

"Residents who are fed up with taking their life into their own hands when they cross the road can have their say in a survey about pedestrian safety in Haringey.

Joanne McCartney, who represents the borough on the London Assembly, wants residents to tell her which spots are the most dangerous to cross."

I'll bet we could give her a few ideas!

My vote would always be for the very lovely Wightman Road! I shall sing its praises to Joanne.
Green Lanes and Willoughby Rd junction
I'm going for Green Lanes, purely due to its 'optional' red lights on crossings.
Many cyclists I meet on Green Lanes say it's the worst in London, I mean the stretch from Manor House to St Annes Rd.
As a commuting cyclist I choose Green Lanes over Wightman Road - as long as you proceed on the assumption that people will not obey the rules of the road, and cycle accordingly, it is preferable to Wightman Road where cars go too fast, and either go past too close to you, or beep at you because you are cycling a sensible distance away from the parked cars and they can't get by.
I'd vote for Wightman Road over Green Lanes purely down to the speed of traffic - Green Lanes is fine in the morning, most of the rest of the time traffic is so slow it represents less of a danger.
Fair point. I think the lack of speed on Green Lanes just encourages people to ignore the lights and box junctions. A bit like, as long as you're going slow normal rules don't apply.

I've never been a fan of Wightman Road with all those side turnings and people bullying their way out. That and the way it goes up, down and around at the southern end make it one to avoid where possible.
Unless, of course, one owns a Wightman Road residence. Yes, Joanne will be hearing from me.
The junction of Seymour Road & Wightman Road. Be carefull when turning out of Seymour everyone as some drivers fly around the bend & cut it. I've nearly had the front of my car wiped clean off......and I'm half a foot behind the give way signs.
Following on from this earlier discussion, I had a reply today from Joanne McCartney, enclosing a letter she had received from Tony Kennedy (in response to my comments on Wightman Road). He said:

'I can assure you that the Council regards road safety, particularly pedestrian safety, as a high priority and is active in introducing road safety measures around the borough. I am pleased to inform you that we have submitted a bid to TfL for funding to consider road safety improvement measures on W road, as part of our 2009/10 local implementation plan.'

Note the 'to consider' bit! Any ideas what this means in practice when it comes to Wightman road. Am worried it just means they have asked for funding and, if successful, might spend some of it on Wightman Road?!
