Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Now that Disney's is closing down it's likely that a new owner will be taking over the premises. The Victorian frontage is the last like it on Green Lanes and well worth preserving. I've written to the portfolio holder for planning, Cllr Demirci, to find out what can be done so we don't lose this wonderful building (see below) but I think that this is definately a job for the eyes and ears of HoL!

Dear Cllr Demirci,

Disney's, which has operated from Harringay Green Lanes for over 100 years, is closing down and I assume that the commercial premises either has been or will shortly be put up for sale.

The frontage of Disney's is the last intact non-licensed Victorian commercial premises in Green Lanes, and a rarity in the borough. I have checked on Haringey's register of listed buildings and it does not seem to have listed building status or to be listed as a building of local interest.

I would be very concerned if any future owner or lessee of the premises were to alter the magnificent shop front. Could I ask if you could contact the appropriate director to find out what could be put in place to prevent this happening.

Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you

Michael Anderson

Hey Pavlos, I used to go into that pet shop almost every Saturday morning on the way to or from the Odeon for the children's morning matinee with my brother and sister. Bloody Noisey! and i'm not talking about the petshop.

Your sister should be grateful they didn't give in. My grandfather, who was a merchant seaman, brought back a spider monkey for my Mum in the early 1930s. He took it out of its cage, it immediately bit my mum and she developed septicaemia and ended up in hospital. Mysteriously, questions to my mum about the fate of the monkey were always met with silence.

I grew up a bit further south, the other side of Euston Road so always traveled up to Camden on the no3 and 53. We always wanted one of the doggies in the window! - and before anyone else does it- WOOF WOOF!

The one with the wagg-a-ly tail?

You saw it too!!? It was lovely !

I just remember that song and always wanted a puppy!

The whole oeuvre of Patti Page is ripe for rediscovery

aah, lovely! That's cheered me up a treat. Brings back lots of memories of singing that song ( I never knew all the words though) when a little girl. Everyone joined in on the woof woofs. Thanks!

Disneys closing down? I didn't know, I missed that information. I get they've been outdone by Dreams and Argos. They were a great store. Will they live on somewhere else? I really hope we can keep the shop front as it is. Too much has already been lost.

With Disney closing down, is there a recommendation for a local carpet fitter?

Mickey mouse firm ?
