Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Not sure what I mean? See below. The jewellers at the top of Kimberly, bottom of Pemberton, are renovating their sign and I caught these shots as they took the old sign down.

The guy who I guess owns the place caught me taking a picture and was a bit suspicious at first (random bloke snapping them taking the sign down etc). He lightened up when I told him I was interested in the sign. He may leave it as it is for someone else to find in a few years, but as we parted he said, "25 years ago- there were butchers everywhere...[along Grand Parades]".

So he gave you that look as if to say 'what's your beef' but probably ended up thinking you were being a bit of a silly sausage. If you'd gone up to him saying 'giv us a butchers' I'd understand him being a little weary.
'Leave the sign as it is' ... wouldn't put a steak on it. Probably chop it up. But at least you didn't mince your words Justin :)

Dave, possibly a little like me, you have too much time on your hands!

Well done! It's good to capture these as we go. I've edited your tag to "old shop signs" to link it with some simillar forum posts. There are other old signs tagged in the image gallery. As a community, we're building up a nice wee collection as we go along.

Cool- do you want the full sized versions- the ones I have here were shrunk to the smallest possible setting... let me know and I can ping them over to you.

Either that or just add the best one to the image gallery and tag appropriately.

Ahr, just realised I deleted the full sized one when I listed this discussion... Have you already put any of the images I have currently here in the gallery? If not I will put a couple up.

Probably not deleted, just deindexed. If you've just 'deleted' it and can find a free SD card undelete programme (always useful to have at hand anyway), chances are 99% it'll be all safe and sound on your card.

I haven't added anything to the gallery.

Its an iPhone Hugh... And I am not that techy. I can have a look, but I hit delete on my phone so I assume it is gone unless there is some kind of recovery programme I can use??? I will do a quick google.

You should check out www.ghostsigns.Co.uk or @ghostsigns on twitter for more.
Really glad you captured this Jus. I was walking past at lunchtime and saw it being uncovered but, of course, had no phone. I wonder if it was a pork butcher, or if that's a northern phenomenon (a pork butcher sells cooked meats and pies as well as pork)
BrillIant! Lovely to see the sign staying too...Hugh thanks for the post of all the uncovers shop signs, some great ones in the post

I'm pretty sure that I can remember Dennis the Butcher.  Butchers were super-fascinating then, with rabbits hung - fur-on, feathered chickens, sides of beef and lamb, and pigs aplenty - ears on.   No square plastic packages with unidentifiable contents in those days.
