Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

After many months and a big Thank you to Cllr Seema for pushing for this, the dedicated Disabled Parking Bay scheme has finally commenced and permits and signs have started to go up. This means only the blue-badge holder of a disabled bay outside their home can park in that bay with a special permit. However my worry and proved last week when another disabled badge holder still parked in my bay, I believe the sign is not clear enough and should be amended to clearly state that only the disabled permit holder can park in that bay. I believe the number looks like a pole number rather than a permit number and open to mistaken abuse.

Looking at this sign can people please advise, if disabled or not you saw this sign would you clearly understand that the number means only the permit holder of that number could park there.

Any feedback welcome, thank you.

I agree: it's not clear. I'd have thought Seema would be the person to contact about this.

If the sign is effectively enforced, it may be that the expense of mis-parking will soon have the desired effect.

Thanks Hugh, I’m already speaking to Cllr Seema but I want to get opinions so we can have a case to put forward. Cllr Seema does agree that it’s not clear enough.

As the holder of a blue badge, I would assume that I could park there since it says -

" Disabled Badge Holders ".  Plural, ie any badge holder.

I have a Neighbors few doors down. As regular issues with other Blue Badge Holders

Big issue they can Only be challenged by a Police Officer. If believed to be wrongly used

Blue Badges was update years ago with a picture of Holder. But users objected to their picture being shown. So no longer needs to be shown

Remember from my Enforcement days. Used to have joint operations with Police and Traffic wardens. Which resulted in many Blue Badges being removed by Police. Mostly through relations using badges belongs to past relatives or stolen

Also Haringey issue a Parking Permit for those that assist Disabled. That allows them to use Disabled Bays

Also remember that they are allowing more people Blue Badges these days

I would certainly read this as meaning that anyone with a blue badge can park in the spot, not just a designated permit holder.

I agree, it's not necessarily clear enough that it relates to a specific permit number.

In Belgium, entrances to garages etc will often be marked with the licence plate of the occupier [affixed privately to the gate etc], often in the same visual format, indicating that someone can block their own garage.

A sign marked "parking for AA51 AAA only" would be clear, although the wording might not be DfT compliant. I can see that potentially causing issues if it's a Council erected sign and somebody gets a new car though.
