Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi All,

Just passed an accident that had closed Camden road. Looks like a Lorry has taken out a cyclist while turning left. All I saw was the aftermath (heaps of police, yellow tape, and a bike wedged firmly under the lorry)

(Snapshot from my helmet cam)

Hope the poor rider is all-right, but I preety much figure for the bike to be that far under the lorry is not good news. Stay safe out there people!

this looks very much like the lorry that almost side-swiped me after overtaking (then sharp swerve inwards) outside Emirates stadium the other week - I have the registration noted somewhere as it was quite distinctive (but not enough to stick in my head). But it was a long scaffolding/plank lorry very like this, with a crane.

The driver, when I caught up with him in slow-moving traffic at Holloway Road, was having a snack and driving with his elbows.

Yes, I reckon my proportion of dodgy encounters is 70/30 motorized/pedal-power (perhaps 60/40 on a bad day), but the more threatening and potentially lethal ones are the heavier vehicles. There's a certain Need to Overtake Regardless of Use and Danger out there and it manifests itself equally on two and four wheels.

I am Very close to buying a helmet cam - the overtake-and-swerve-in manoeuvre is so common with the HGVs and I'm fed up of being told not to put myself in their blind spot. I don't put myself there!

Horrible, horrible.

I wonder whether it was the same lorry/driver...

Linka, if you can dig out the registration number and give it to the Police investigating this, I'm sure they would be grateful.  Without prejudging fault in this particular case, if the driver was at fault, demonstrating a pattern of similar behaviour can be crucial in getting a conviction.
More information from the HJ . Deeply saddening.
