Ditto. Amazing. I knew there was a reservoir here but had no sense of what lies under that stretch of ground.
I believe its water was pumped from the New River via Hornsey Waterworks. A stretch of the original underground pipe near St Mary's Tower burst earlier this year.

On the subject of impressive underground reservoirs, it's worth mentioning (for anyone who doesn't know about it) the disused reservoir under part of Finsbury Park, which has even featured in Doctor Who:
