Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Bit of a background:

I live in a house conversion consisting of 3 flats, it is and L&Q place and the 2 tenants above me have absolutely no interests in keeping the "shared" area (including the garden) decent so it is down to me to sweep, clean, pick up rubbish from the path, cut the grass, put the bins back after collection etc etc. And I am the only one that works. Well, life.

We have 4 (again - shared) bins at the front. 2 normal black and 2 recycling green. While cutting the grass today I noticed 2 of them have big cracks. I did not have time to look properly, will check again in the morning if the other 2 are ok or not.

I had a look on Harringey website and to replace a single bin cost £30.00. Which I guess would be fine if those were my bins (not shared) and I damaged them myself somehow.

BUT when I am sometimes at home on the collection day and see how Veolia staff handles those bins, I am pretty sure they damaged them as I can not see how else could they get those cracks.

But those is this gem on their website:

What happens if it’s the collection crew that lose or damage my bin?
The collection crew will report any instances of bins being damaged or falling into the waste truck. We will then replace your lost or damaged bin free of charge within five working days. Please note that if the crew have not reported any loss or damage then you will be liable for the cost of replacing the bin.

Now, I can not imagine the crew is actually reporting those things as if they did - those bins would have been replaced by now. And if they do not report - see above. Clever.

I personally do not want to pay for replacing bins that are shared among 3 flats (I already do enough around here on the shared areas), I know for sue that the 2 other tenants will not contribute.

Has anyone got any experience with similar situation and tips on resolving that?

Many thanks

Are you all tenants? If so you might be able to report it to the owner of the building to deal with? The owner must have a duty to provide bins.

Similar here, the bracket/loop that holds the axle and wheels in place was damaged by Veolia so one wheel flaps around loose.  I've been looking for fixes.

One that may work for me, and likely would work for you, is duct tape. £3 for a 5 cm X 10 metre roll from Homebase, colour black. Yes it's a cost, but a smallish one.

Has anyone tried having a nice chat with the Veolia guys and trying to get them to report the damage. You never know it may work.

Yeah I tried the nice chat - was told VERY brusquely to report it myself which would get me a free replacement. Barefaced lie.
