Does anyone know if we need to use visitors permits today and tomorrow?
I'm in GLB, I've searched the council website and it says 'normal Bank Holiday enforcement' but doesn't tell me what that is. It says it's free to park in pay and display but doesn't specifically mention CPZ.
Cllr Nilgun Canver is the "cabinet" councillor who has parking and CPZs within her remit. Nilgun's email address is: nilgun.canver@haringey.gov.uk
Hi Juliet B; as luck would have it I was just looking this up. According to H's website it's free in resident's bays on public holidays:
As I read JulieB's point, the wording on Haringey's webpage doesn't make this unequivocally clear and certain. And it should.
Thanks for the replies, and I have emailed Nilgun. She's replied saying she thinks it's free in my CPZ today and she'll check about tomorrow.
From the wording on that page it implies that it's free because one of the exceptions is the Finsbury Park match time parking, but I don't think it's clear at all.
I'd quite like to know in general about Bank Holidays because I'm never sure.
If and when you do find out please let us know. A question I have often wondered about.
I was not sure whether Saturday as a Christmas Eve was a day visitors could park in residents bays. It is not technically a Bank Holiday so we did not take the chance...
Undoubtedly a good decision as it avoids the risk of a parking fine.
Although an even better decision would be for Haringey to amend its parking information — on and offline — to make it Crystal Mark clear. And an obvious place to start the process is where residents say they've read the rules and are still unsure.
(Tottenham Hale ward councillor)
Nilgun emailed me again this evening saying it was fine to park in CPZ today as well as yesterday. So I'm assuming this means every bank holiday. I have asked her to look at the website and amend it to make clear exactly what 'bank holiday enforcement' means.
The information on the Haringey Council website seems quite clear - with one exception.
It says on bank and public holidays people can park without payment in Council car parks and in pay and display bays. But it doesn't say anything about residents' bays. Are they classed as " pay and display " ?
It's pretty clear. But not yet Crystal Mark clear.
Anyway, who wants to bet on it? If you win you get free parking. If you lose you can pay £130 or £80.
A few years ago, preparing for a brief trip to Budapest, we inexplicably forgot about learning Hungarian. Fortunately we found a guidebook with lots of essential stuff. Like the fact that each time we changed lines on the metro we needed to punch another ticket. And sure enough, in the corridors of a main interchange station, were machines to do this.
Standing just past the machines, examining tickets, were some square-shaped blokes. (Think Welsh rugby players). Of course they may have been there to helpfully explain to tourists why they needed another ticket punched. Or perhaps to collect fines.
