Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following HoL's post about bis being left at arms length fron the gate, Councillor Canver, (Cabinet member for the Environment at Haringey) got involved and told us the following:

Emptied bins are to be returned to the collection point. as you'll see the website clearly states that:

How to use the service

The evening before collection day, please:

  • Put your wheelie bin as close to the edge of your property as possible (next to the front gate, if you have one).
  • Make sure the wheels of the bin are facing outwards.
  • The bin should not be obstructed by parked cars or bikes, pot plants or other garden features.

Once it has been emptied your bin will be returned to the collection point. Please do not leave your bin on the pavement.

we're liaising with Veolia to reaffirm that.

If only. I live in a street that has no front garden. There is no roadway. It is paved. So our bins are outside our houses on council paving. Not for the first time, this week my recycling bin was not returned at all. Nowhere visible from my front door. It has happened with my rubbish bin as well. The operatives take bins an leave them anywhere. Recently a bin for 13 Campsbourne Rd was in another street, on its side for 3 weeks. My estate is scattered with these lost bins. Veolia never gather them up. I have been delivered yet another new bin. But where is my missing bin? I cannot see why the bin is not brought straight back to where it was taken from. After all they only take one at a time. Seems to be a borough wide problem.
  • Our street (Hampden Lane) is littered with lost bins and compost waste bins.
  • My green waste bag has now gone missing, normally Viola 'post' the handles into our letter box as we have no front garden. Many residents constantly leave their wheelie bins out on the public footpath which creates obstruction, mess (as they over spill) and really bad smells. Sometimes our Lane looks more like a third world village than a London Street. Im tierd of reporting the rogue bins to the litter enforcement. In 2012 Harrigey promised to 'Deliver a dedicated grime team' to Tottenham, its 2013 and there's still no sign of them.

Take photographs. Send to your local councillor. Local elections are less than a year away so councillors are even more keen to act on residents' personal concerns.

Just like in 2010? And I laughed and laughed and laughed. They certainly don't care about the main gripe around Harringay - traffic.
