Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

21 FAMILIES WHO LIVE AT CONNAUGHT HOUSE, MUSWELL HILL ARE BEING MADE HOMELESS

The Metropolitan Police are planning to make 21 families homeless by reclaiming the land for profitable redevelopment.

AS YET THEY HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN PLANNING PERMISSION MEANING THESE BUILDINGS COULD LIE EMPTY (& OPEN TO VANDALISM) FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.

By doing this, they will be ripping the heart out of the community that live here.

Some of the residents, having lived here for over 20 years (and brought up children and raised families), have been informed by Crown Housing Association and Haringey Council that they have no legal obligation to re-house them, thus making them homeless.
In the current climate, where Social Housing is already under extreme pressure, virtually non existent; is making another 21 families homeless, the best solution? Are the financial needs of the Metropolitan Police greater than those of people's lives?

BAILIFFS ARE DUE THE 2ND WEEK IN MARCH!  (11th)

Local groups are getting involved, as well as Occupy London and Save Barnet Library.

Please come down and give your support.

LOCATION: Connaught House, Muswell Hill, N10 3LH,

As of now,  protesters are needing...

1. a robust camp kettel
2. a ladder
3. banner making materials

Hi, sorry I know this wont be popular, but surely if they are tenants they can be evicted. I will not be supporting their cause I am afraid.

A home is not just a place you live, people invest years developing a community that allows for people to look out for each other and their families, this is an obvious gentification. It is just plain wrong to uproot these families leaving them in a situation of unstable housing, drifting into the hiked up prices of the private sector, developing ever increasing poverty.

Good point.

Same as those tribes in rain forests, getting in the way of development, when we need oil, gold , palm oil and uranium. After all, they are just people who have made their homes on site. How dare they think they can live in prime real estate.

How can you be kettled, if the idea is to stay in the first place?

Kinda shocked by the lack of response for everyone here.
For a forum that's titled "Harringay community", I expected a wave of posts, for the small Harringay community, that are  getting kicked out of their homes, only for a company to make a quick buck.

I think ya should be ashamed of yourselves.

Muswell Hill is not Harringay.

I think your find it is in the London Borough of Haringey

Yes, but not in the district of Harringay (which is also in the London Borough of Haringey).  I'm not advocating for or against the cause because I don't know enough about it, but it does explain why you haven't had that much response.  They are a small HARINGEY community, not a small HARRINGAY community.

A short explanation on the difference and maps of *Harringay* neighbourhood  can be found here

I dismiss your argument, as most of the forum topics, in this forum, are outside of the district of Harringay.

Have a nice day
