Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm happy to point out when the Council's performance ain't up to scratch, but on this occasion they done good.

The Council's new app for reporting dumped rubbish and other street problems makes reporting an issue an absolute doddle.

Prior to Haringey getting their own app, I tried apps based on the same platform used by other councils and I have to say the the Haringey version just works better. I'm assuming that this is because they took the time to trial their version and actually took on the feedback they were given.

More important though is what happens to the reports that the app generates and I'm happy to report that there seems to be a pretty good record.

Now, if I see a dumped sofa, or whatever, on the street, I'll pull my phone out of my pocket, snap a shot as I'm passing, punch in two more essential details and bish-bosh it's done. Quick, simple and efficient.

Download a copy for yourself and help keep our streets looking as nice as possible.

Likewise, easy to use and so handy for that Victor Meldrew moment........(plays theme from OFITG)

Couldn't agree more. I only downloaded in this year and must have used it once a week on average.

Ah, but if only Haringey and Homes for Haringey staff who are out-and-about, were given a phone with the app, they might find a few seconds to report obvious problems as they go on their way round the borough.

Or even the Greater London Authority staff at 639 High Road Tottenham might have spotted this small discreet message which Liz Ixer and I chanced to see as we walked by. It's a few metres from the building's crèche.

Double Yellow

Or here's some bushes growing over the pavement from the front garden of a Homes for Haringey owned building. Making life just a bit more difficult for a blind or partially-sighted person

I'll be dishing out praise soon enough - but  when it's fully deserved.

I strongly suspect that this app replaces a human being. Haringey needs jobs not apps.

Hear hear! Haringey needs jobs, not "apps", and posh yuppies with their "smart phones". It could also do with cleaner streets and some repairs to the main roads. Don't hold your breath waiting for Haringey Council to do anything.

Come come now chaps. This is about leveraging new technology to make improvements. You could never realisticaly employ enough people to do what residents with these apps can do when just walking to the bus stop. And, Christopher, if it's just Yuppies who own a smart phone then I'm afraid there's bad news for you; 70% of the UK population are yuppies. (Sorry to to give you such awful news on a Friday morning).
