Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Cleaning our streets of litter through the power of twitter (and HOL)

Not on Twitter (and don't want to be) and want to join in, add your contribution below and I'll tweet it for you!

Keep Britain Tidy are organising a #Twitpick on Wednesday 17th November

The “Twit pick” will involve asking people to each pick up one piece of litter and then tweet what they have collected.

Litter pickers will then be rewarded with a shout out from Keep Britain Tidy on Twitter telling the rest of our followers what a great job they are doing.

This will be the second time the event has taken place and the charity is hoping that it will be the biggest one yet.

Nicola Peate, digital media co-ordinator said: “Our last ‘Twitpick’ was a huge success leading to over 50 pieces of litter being removed from the streets of England including nine cans, six plastic bottles, cigarette packets and a pizza menu.

“We were delighted with the reaction from followers who responded brilliantly.

“It is a great way to empower our followers to not only show that they ‘follow’ Keep Britain Tidy but to actually do something about it and get involved with the world’s only online litter pick”

Reaction from the last ‘Twitpick’ included tweets such as “I love this idea: @keepbritaintidy updates of litter items being binned by diligent tweeters” and “I’m liking the @keepbritaintidy campaign to encourage us to pick up litter when we see it rather than walking on by”.

'huge success leading to over 50 pieces of litter '
UK population > 60million...
yes, I know Pamish but not all 60 million people are on Twitter. This campaign is aimed at Twitter users who follow KBT mainly and maybe they didn't have that many followers last time they tried it.

Even so KBT now has over 2,000 followers on Twitter so I'm hoping we can get more that 50 pieces picked up this year!

Hoping HOL members will join me in picking stuff up tomorrow - got to start somewhere. I'll tweet out our contributions.
I've just picked up a malt loaf wrapper I dropped on the kitchen floor on Saturday. The wife told me about it on Sunday and reminded me last night and again early this morning. I think I should have left it till tomorrow for it to count, no?
I think you'll find plenty of litter on Wightman Road to add to the count, without adding the contents of your kitchen floor, OAE
Just tweeted : 3 choc bar wrappers, 1 tissue, 1 crisp packet, 1 discarded chicken shop meal bag (with contents) #twitpick @KeepBritainTidy

(all picked up on the way to the school in the next street)
Do two plastic bags and a newspaper thrown into my garden count?
yes they do! You have been tweeted
3 plastic bottles, a yogurt pot and loads of the postman's red elastic bands
Thank you!

A shout out to Harringay Online members from Keep Britain Tidy this morning. Between the 5 of us we collected over a 5th of the total. Well done HOL litter warriors!
Now just imagine of all the rest of HOL had picked a bit of litter up - apart from keeping me busy tweeting it all yesterday.

Your next chance is in the Spring
Spring? I think it would be possible to pick up a piece of H'Gay litter every day and still make not much of a dent. And what about those leaves... slippy.

I should add that I absolutely support this, although do echo Pamish's observations. heh
