Chess Club for Kids?

Hi Justin

There are chess clubs at Marcus Garvey Library and at Wood Green Library. The tutors are from Chess in Schools a charity promoting exactly that - chess teaching. The one at Marcus Garvey is on Friday afternoons. I'm not sure when the Wood Green club meets but it should be on the website somewhere.

I need to make a declaration. I teach chess through Chess in Schools - a year 5 class in a primary in Shadwell and I started and run the chess club at Seven Sisters. I run the club as a volunteer since I am a governor at Seven Sisters.

I have suggested that chess tables are put in Ducketts Common around the cafe who said they would look after the chess sets. I think encouraging chess playing in the park would encourage people to sit outside; it is intergenerational and in another activity to bring life to the park. The more things happening, the safer it is as well. I would like to do this in Finsbury Park and maybe see if we could run a summer chess club there for kids.

My grandson's local school runs a chess club, may well worth inquiring in the school your 9 year old attends. Chess in Ducketts Common would be a brilliant idea.

there's also wood green chess club. I don't know what, if anything, they offer for children, but might be worth asking (even if they don't offer anything they might be able to point you in the right direction).
