Central London Demonstration for More Refugee Support
We've been asked to help publicise a demo in central London in just over a week's time.

Demonstration in central London
On September 14th, Theresa May will be attending a meeting of the EU's 28 member states for emergency talks on Europe’s escalating refugee crisis.
It is vital that she takes with her the conviction that the British people that she represents are open to helping refugees and that we can’t continue to allow thousands to die trying to reach the EU and their legal right to claim asylum.
We have to ensure that refugees can reach Europe safely. There needs to be either official safe transport provided, or if people could apply for asylum from outside the EU they would be able to enter by official routes.
We need to prioritise the fast processing of asylum claims from people from particularly dangerous regions, such as Syria.
We can’t allow any EU countries to close their borders or build fences. There needs to be Europe-wide consensus on providing help where it is so desperately needed, relieving pressure on the Mediterranean countries.

We will be gathering in central London on September 12th to show support for positive change ahead of the meeting on the 14th September.

Just about to take some stuff to Big Yellow storage in East Finchley but they have been overwhelmed with donations and the facility is now full! I know someone who is leaving for Calais tomorrow and can just squeeze it in! People are reaching out to help those in desperate need. Now we need our politicians to show the kind of guts Merkel has shown. She went down to an anti immigrant demo and was abused and sworn at but went to show the German people where she stood and where the government stood. Can't stand her politics, but I like her guts! What a great example she is!

What do you know about her politics then Philip? Please don't reply here as it's OT. But I find such throwaway comments pretty tiring. Especially from insular Brits who actually get to see very little coverage of European politics and events. Especially when compared to the news and events of the United States. And that what you do get to see is very 'tinged' shall we say. Mostly from Newspapers owned by bigoted NonDoms and your own very biased BBC. Which mostly reports what the majority 'want' to hear.
I don'r vote for her 'right of centre, conservative' party, but I do work at least once a month with/for her. One of her major 'plus points' is that she is a woman. Not of the Thatcher/May typus. But a politician who is not afraid to show some humanity. I haven't seen politicians of her calibre in the UK for many decades.

Stephen, a bit rich asking Philip not to reply to you for sake of going off topic, then descending into a completely off topic rant about our insular and biased media etc.. Oh and you working with Merkel on a monthly basis; trying hard to spot the relevance of this to the thread too.
To clarify, I'm disgusted by our government's response and fully support the Solidarity with Refugees demo this weekend.

I'd say that Merkel's stand is doing Germany's world image no end of good. It, and our own government's stance, makes me feel rather ashamed of our own performance.

I could not agree more. I am German and very proud about the help we offer and feel ashamed that the country I have chosen to live in chooses to behave in such an inhumane way (sorry..).

Sign this petition at the parliament website if you like. Only 100,000 signatures needed to force a debate in parliament but it's already at nearly 370,000 (200,000 in 24hrs). More the better to drive home the msg that we need to help more here in the UK.
