Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I met up with local resident Deborah yesterday to take a look at Carbuncle Passage N17 - a pedestrianised passageway which is often fly-tipped and contains lots of broken glass / fences:
Deborah has had the lovely idea of cleaning it up and greening it up for the local community to enjoy. If any of you would be happy to help support this endeavour it would be much appreciated indeed!
We thought, subject to permissions from the council that it would be really nice over summer to bring a group together to clear up the debris first (fly-tipping / broken glass) and then maybe hold a play street / street party  /  get some planters in - more ideas welcome...
The main idea being to hep local people look after where they live and take ownership of the outside space.
Do let me know your thoughts please and if you would like to help or have any advice for other people / groups who might be able to help out?
Any thoughts?
Sarah.

There are small grants available on a ward-by-ward basis for projects like this. See link.  I think you start with contacting your ward councillors.  Good luck.

Yes it would probably fit the criteria well Pamish.
We have contacted the Ward Cllrs today so will see what response we get.
Fingers crossed!

There's also the Mayor of London Crowdfunding pilot programme

'The deadline for projects to be uploaded and ready for the Mayor to assess is 2nd May. Pledges will be made to funding campaigns in June.'

Thanks Bob will check it out!
Fantastic idea. We used to use this regularly by bike to run our dog to the footbridge to Tottenham marshes. Always felt this place had huge potential and was like a hidden secret - especially with its preposterous but rather appropriate name. Good luck with the project. (NB there is a site called Tottenham Life which is more targeted to this area, but not as well used, which you might like to use to publicise this).
Hi Gina
Yes have signed up to it just waiting for approval to post!

I think it is the course of the Moselle River from Moselle Muswell Hill, which still runs underneath. It wouldn't be possible to plant trees.

The Moselle runs under the frontage of Millicent Fawcett Corset along the High Road to Scotland Green and then under Carbuncle Passage.. It flooded regularly here until the early 1970s.

Harringay, being a late Victorian 'infill' development, can't really boast any buildings with some history like this one. https://flic.kr/p/onuPWK

The good gym, people exercising while doing jobs for the community
Hi Carole,
Will certainly invite the Good Gym once an event is planned and local people are on board.

That's great, Sarah.

It would also be a good idea to search for local Residents Associations to improve community involvement. I don't have any details, but think that Hartington Park has an active Friends organisation.
