Can We Get Haringey To Ban Estate Agents Signs?
The Evening Standard have reported that Hammersmith & Fulham have just planned to extend the areas of their borough in which estate agents signs of any variety are banned. They are already banned in some parts of the borough. Story here
As you can see, Hammersmith started with a consultation (don't they always) - and once they'd got a near-100% approval for the ban, they
went ahead.
So why won't Haringey go the same way? They could at least make a start with our beautiful Green Lanes parade.
Now how about some of those candidates putting this on their manifesto? All they have to promise is to do a consultation to see how favourable it would be and then act on the consultation. Which, after all, is what local politicicans claim they always do innit.

Hello Clive, well I had to comment :)
The entire estate agency industry is likely to undergo a rapid change. Just a few weeks ago the OFT ruled (after a year long study) that Estate Agents had come a long way and didn't need full regulation. Many professionals, including myself have welcomed full regulation for quite some time.
The OFT went on to encourage new business models, and online companies to enter the market. This is great for the consumer, and more choice is actually good for the professionals within our industry!
The trouble with these online startups is that many people are now encouraged to go it alone without a professional, which is fine if that's what they want to do, but in can be a costly mistake, and it can also be dangerous... I was recently asked to share some of these financial and personal dangers with the public.
I genuinely feel that in time people will realise just how specialised it is bringing all the components of a sale together, but only once they have explored other options.
I do see the property industry evolving fairly rapidly, and in much the same way that Travel Agents did. Yes, there will inevitably be some estate agents closing down if they cannot evolve and reshape quickly enough.
I don't think there will be one all encompassing website model, anyone can see what the house down the road sold for, but this doesn't constitute a valuation.
So... this brings me back to the board situation, I may be a little ahead of time here, but I can confidently say that any agent in their right mind cannot afford to upset local folk, and with the possible exception of the commercial boards, the tools needed to smarten up the area are right here!
You may also be very pleased to know that ALL Letting Agents are to be fully regulated, this will effect HMO's, boards, and other issues!
