Blend owners Linda and Steve were in shock as their new cafe filled up and queues developed at the counter and more people kept coming in.
"We weren't expecting this". Linda told me. "Thank goodness our other halves came in to help!"
All the customers I spoke to reported great coffee and delicious cakes (all the cakes were free today!!). I'll second that. Loved the coffee, loved the cheesecake.
I enjoyed seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. It was wonderful seeing the opening being such a success and I very much hope that this is a taste of things to come and we have a busy new community hub down on the Lanes to add to the great places we already have.
As you'd expect a few pics from me below - and ooh yes, my photo exhibition is going up tonight. So please pop in, support your new local cafe and have a look at some local pics.

Great - I shall also make a visit with my friends soon. :)
I thought it was a cafe and not a creche. Judging by Sunday it is plenty family friendly already (I think every table contained at least one child).
I think the cafe is great and a terrific addition to the neighbourhood, but if my initial experience on Sunday morning is anything to go by, it won't be the place for a cup of coffee and a quiet read of the papers.
Oh I missed the opening as I was out of the country - just got back - this is near to my road, although I have a lot of loyalty to L'Obergine run by Cemil - a bit further down opposite Tesco express. I often go there to write. He also owns The Print Centre next door to Blend. He is just about to change his coffee brand he told me a few weeks ago, he does make a lovely smooth capuccino there and also the halloumi and poached egg salad - my favourite - not too many calories too! And newspapers!
However Blend is so close to my gap I'll have to try it - pity I missed the free cake though! it looks lovely inside from the pictures, I might have to try those corner armchairs with my laptop and glance over the menu.
Was reading about this in Tanzania and made it my first port of call while flat hunting on Saturday. It was lovely to find a place so child friendly with great coffee. Nice vibe too.
Popped in to grab a coffee on Saturday - really nice coffee, comfy chairs, very friendly service and nice music playing at a discreet but audible volume
Best of luck to them
