Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

For a few days now I've suspected something was afoot with Turnpike Lane's Banksy; it's been surrounded by scaffolding and tarpaulin since Wednesday - and there was a security van present for much of that time.

This morning I had a sneaky look under said tarpaulin to find it had been removed. I spoke to the guy rendering the wall and he said that after repeated attempts to gouge it out, the owner of the Poundland building had decided to take steps to 'preserve' it. He wasn't sure where it's gone...one can only wonder if it's been sold. Sad to see it go - it was nice to have a landmark of sorts...

I shall pop past and look at that tomorrow. Despite the negative story it does make me feel proud of my area

Gillian that's fantastic! Do you mind if I Facebook that picture?

FWIW I am ok about the Banksy going, or rather I accept it comes with the territory for this sort of art. The alternative is some sort of officially sanctioned and protected Guerilla Art Intervention Sites (tm) with a formal application process and portfolio of previous public commissions, and probably a feature in Haringey People. I'd much rather a transient surprise than a curated display.
no probs!

Regarding Equivalent VIII, didn't people wear nasty clothes back then, kind of uncomfortable and monochrome.

Report on 'Banksy in North London' in 12 minutes time on 'Frontrow' on Radio 4

Missed you Stephen, welcome back.

Thanks Michael.. you too !

To be honest, if I found a mortgage worth of spray paint on the side of my house I think I would be out there with a chisel.

Ha ha. Fair point Lee!

I see another bit of art/graffiti has appeared - this time a rat that looks a little Banksy-ish. I think that wall is going to attract graffiti artists now.

Not sure how to add the pic, here's a link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/eoghan_mac/8498230278/ Owner obviously thinks it's the real McCoy as there's two large glazier vans parked up with these two frantically covering it in perspex.

This could be the start of an endless loop!
