Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Running perhaps against the gentrification trend, Budgens Crouch End is one of 15 stores to have been acquired by the Co-op. I assume this means that the store will be rebranded and will reopen under the flag of the new owners.

Very likely, since the Budgens franchised store set-up doesn't fit the Co-op's structure and own-brands. The variety of local foods was Budgens' strength and why I would shop there when in the area.

I wondered how long before Budgens vanished. Last time I was there I was struck by how empty it was (despite an enormous queue stretching up and down the aisles at Waitrose). Wonder how well a Co-op will do, there is a lot of competition in that neck of the woods.

I find it hard to believe there could be a world in which our opinions as residents would make even the slightest difference to what happens in our town. Were you to imagine what would be ideal in Harringay, bringing it about is beyond our ability under the present regime I guess.

Was cheered by those residents of another 'coffee republic' (Totnes with over 40 coffee shops) who marched through the streets in an effective 2012 protest against a national chain bagging the largest coffee shop site in town. Cowes had a go too.

As the borough has been solid Labour for a lifetime now, this is the place where a move away from neoliberalism (that has harmed us so much recently) could most likely occur.

Given that Crouch End newcomers Waitrose and the forthcoming Co-op both operate a 'socialist' ownership model and that Jeremy Corbyn was a Harringay councillor for nearly a decade of, presumably, seed-planting, does this signal a flowering of moves to the left around here?

Crouch end loses a budgens and Wood Green gains two hotels.

Times they are a changing.

Where are the two hotels - built or to be built?

My experience of the co-op is that their produce is excellent and very reasonably priced - much more so than Budgens (which has gone the way of all flesh.) A positive addition to Crouch End shopping.

I've heard the staff will be kept on but that won't be the case if it's more self service tills surely?

Gutted this is happening, I quite liked the butchers at Budgens, shopped there loads recently.
