Big Green Book Action and Mattison Road drop off point for donations to aid refugees at Calais

As well as the fundraising going on for CalAid by Racheal here, the Big Green Bookshop is fundraising for the Calais library known as the Jungle Library. You can donate books to the shop or you can use the DONATE button on their blog to give money to buy the books specifically needed such as dictionaries and books in refugees mother tongues.

Hi Liz, do you know when we can leave donations at the Mattison Road drop off point  - dates/times etc?

I don't I'm afraid. I got the info via Twitter but there are contact details on their page for Giuseppe Conlan house (49 Mattison) here : http://www.londoncatholicworker.org/contacts.html
I just dropped some stuff off. The church door is open at the moment and you can leave donations in the porch.
Thanks Liz, very helpful. I've been on the lookout for a way to do something practical.

You can also contact Con who manages Guiseppe Conlon House via this site.

***LATEST UPDATE***  from CalAid

We have been in touch with our organisation on the ground In Calais & due to the wonderful recent outpouring of donations from across Europe, they are asking that transport of ALL donations be put on hold until November.

ALL of your donations will be transferred to a holding storage space in London organised by CalAid on 20th September.

PLEASE don't worry - your donations will still be utilised, we just need to ensure this happens in the most effective manner & that they get to those most in need of them.

CalAid are looking into ways to distribute what we have received further into Europe, so watch this space for further updates! Your items could end up somewhere else needed.

Due to this - I am putting a deadline date on ALL donations.
Please drop anything off you have by September 13th.
I can then sort through & transport EVERYTHING we currently have to the London storage unit.

*WITH THE BEST OF INTENTIONS - PLEASE DO NOT TURN UP IN CALAIS UNANNOUNCED WITH DONATIONS AS THEY HAVE NO-WHERE TO STORE THEM AT PRESENT & IT IS CAUSING PROBLEMS ON THE GROUND.*

Thank you SO much for your generosity, time & passion

Thank for that Pamish.

Isn't there a knitting group on here? I'm a very basic knitter but I'm sure I could manage to make a couple of hats which will no doubt be needed as the weather gets colder.
