Beware - Definite Spike in Theft from Cars on Ladder
Back in June the Harringay SNT posted on HoL to warn us all that they'd seen an increase in thefts from cars on the Ladder.
More recently various members have posted to say that their cars have been either 'visited' and or stolen from.
Tonight, I went out to the car for a short pick-up run to find tht our car had been 'visited'. Luckily there was nothing of value for them to take. Nonetheless, I thought I'd add to the "theft from car" posts to warn y'all to be extra vigilant.

I wouldn't want to encourage alarms as it takes a big gust of wind to set them all off, it's better to show that there is nothing left in the car even if it means leaving the glove compartment open, anyway I thought modern cars were more difficult to access.

Most alarms have been microwave based for the past 15 years. So external wind doesn't have any effect.

There is a spate of using radio jammers, so when you use the fob to lock the car, it doesn't get the signal.

Ours was rifled through recently but they found nothing worth taking.

They must've been quick with ours then because it auto locks after a short while of being left to itself. Was under the impression they were effectively copying the fob so they could open it whenever they wanted. But that was based on 0.5 seconds of research and I prefer your version because presumably all I have to do is try to the car door to check it's locked before going indoors.

Usually it is pretty quick, see you park up, lock the car and leave. How often do you hang around your car after locking it?
A jammer can be built with about £3 of parts.
Fob cloning is more expensive and tends to be used on high end cars which leave the country very quickly or are chopped for parts.

I use the fob to lock the car, then test door handles to make sure it has locked properly. Simples :)

It's not uncommon for us to forget something or other and nip back out again a couple of minutes later. But the rush explains why they missed quite a few bits that seem to commonly get taken and plumped for just an ancient iPod.
I read that jammers can also cause issues with the functioning of the fob, or is that just fluff?
