Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone know what's happened at the end of Beresford Road? Lots of police, ambulance and one fire engine. Beresford Road is now blocked off at Wightman Road so you can't turn in to it.

(The narrowing of the road on the junction with Green Lanes causes queues and I wondered if someone has got impatient and shot out of the junction when it is not clear).

I have put it on the Facebook page of Harringay online... I'm new to this website so didn't know there was a page but if you're willing to share it on your own social media sites too that would be great. I'm hoping that word will spread!

I agree that the whole area needs to be looked at. Beresford Road has seen a massive increase in traffic following the introduction of the no right turn on Hewitt Rd. The whole area needs to be looked at holistically and a traffic plan done which looks at traffic in the whole area. Sorting Beresford will push the problem to Fairfax and so on. The Green Lanes and Turnpike Lane and Endymion Road are far too busy and should be red routes like Camden Road and Seven Sisters. There are limited transport options from East to West in Haringey which pushes people into their cars. I think all the ladder roads should be managed better. These are residential streets and because they are long and straight there is always going to be a tendancy towards rat running unless access is restricted in some way. Similar roads on the western side of the train tracks do this (Inderwick, Nelson Rds etc.) So why not us?

Sadly it's been made clear any number of times that there is no political will to cut down the parking on Green Lanes. Whether that's due to the influence of the traders' association or the fear of losing votes or a lack of day-in day-out experience of the area, who knows.

Many people do feel that losing the parking would spell the end for the high street, but I'm not so sure. More and more, the high street is being used by local residents, and the area is well served by buses. Urban clearways like red routes do allow parking and loading, but it's free for shorter periods during off peak times of day. I think it would be a really good thing for the area if the road was clearer. Certainly as a bus user and driver I would welcome it! But I know it's a real no-go area for some people. Page 38 has average spend by mode of transport. In brief, drivers spend more at a time but visit less often,  so spend less overall:

The average spend was £36 on the day of interview which is similar to the usual spend per visit (£32).

The average spend per week was £72. The average spend per month was £290.

Average spend per visit by mode was car £41, train/Tube £38, bus £32, walk £26 and cycle £21.

Average spend per week by mode was walk £93, bus £70, train/Tube £59, car £56 and cycle £47.

Average spend per month by mode was walk £373, bus £282, train/Tube £239, car £226 and cycle £188.

If I was hit by the blue car that mounted the pavement I would of been dead.
Haringey Council take action now don't wait when there are fatalities for you to wake up cause it could be one of you.
