Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It seems that turbulent times persist for Harringay-based electrics wholesaler, BDC.

A late 2008 management buy-out was quickly followed the overnight loss of protected trees in the wholesaler's Green Lanes car park in Harringay.

Does the sudden closure of their Croydon store just announced in the DIY trade press mean that we're likely to see the Harringay BDC site change hands in the near future?

If it does get sold it seems difficult to imagine that it won't be sold for development. That being the case, it's likely to have a significant impact on the character of the northern part of Harringay's stretch of Green Lanes.

(Here's a link to a Google Street view of BDC - taken before the trees were felled)

Keep 'em peeled folks.

Just noticed a sign on the gate that the BDC site is closed up and is no longer trading. Any news on what be happening next there?
Their holding company has gone into administration: they normally try and sell as going concerns, but I think it's too late for them to trade out after two failed attempts and a £2.5m investment of funds.

The fact the trees have aleady gone should increase the redevelopment possiblities of the site.
Apparently the big bookmakers are in negotiation about setting up a betting park there.
Sorry, I appear to have written my comment in pirate speak..."what be happening next there" . Can sometimes slip into it after three weeks with kids in the summer hols.
It is quite a large site, perfect for a shopping park, i would say.
It will be a carpark and storage space. Betcha.
I had assumed it was derelict anyway - never seemed to be any cars/vans there or signs of life in the building! Interested to see what it's turned into.

Anyone know if the squat building to the right of it on the Street View image is a substation or a vent shaft for the tube? You know, the one with the grille at the top full of pigeon fluff and vintage litter...
Yes the squat building is owned by London Transport and is a vent. "Hawes and Curtis," the mensware company, are still operating a distribution centre from there. Upon their arrival the two protected trees out the front were cut down and an application for a change to the side entrance was applied for but not constructed yet. I wonder if these are pieces of a jigsaw yet to be revealed to us ?
