I can't help you with Funk but for summer parties in my garden I have several times employed She'Koyokh (See: http://www.shekoyokh.co.uk/) who are a very talented multi-ethnic band based in London. I have also employed Kourelou (See: www.kourelou.co.uk) who are a Greek band led by Pavlos Melas who lives right here in the ladder.
Best wedding party band I've ever seen: http://www.bikinibeach.co.uk/ - they're doing a free gig at Ryans Bar in stokie this Saturday
I've seen Bikinibeach live and they are indeed excellent. Nothing better if you want to give your wedding a genuine Waikiki surf feel. And who doesn't?
I could resurrect my classic soul band but the organiser would have to fly up the rhythm section from Italy (my little avatar pic is me with Booker T Jones). Plus all my PA gear is still in Italy and that is too much to be flown up. Heck we know all that surf music that Bikini Beach plays as well. I was at Dick Dale's house before Pulp Fiction when there used to be about 20 people at the concerts! Normally don't do weddings though, but I am interested to get a band up and running up here as I have found a great female classic soul singer so more open than usual to type of gig.
