Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear all,

Just recently elected as the new Chairman of the Tottenham Conservatives Association, I had the trauma and misfortune Thursday last on my way home to have been robbed and assaulted in Harringay Passage just off Turnpike Lane last Thursday night. A rather big strike to the head by three local men (probably around 19/20 years old) causing a considerable deep wound and a lot of blood lost. After being assaulted and threatened I was then robbed of my wallet and BlackBerry. Luckily, I did not become unconscious from the attack and managed to stagger to the local Hornsey Police Station where I reported the crime. Staff there were helpful and I was glad they were open. They telephoned for an ambulance and then I was taken the A&E unit at the Whittington. I would like to formally express my gratitude to the staff who treated me there – consummate professionalism and excellent care. Sadly, I feel local crime is still a big issue for Haringey and I very much hope that the local Labour Council is doing what it should to reduce attacks like this. In fact, I was informed on the subject that the local Labour Council do not seem to seek to place CCTV in the passages but only have this in the main road areas – most probably for reasons to do with income from parking NOT to protect its local citizens. This is not good – I doubt the local Council would admit to this.

I feel the safety of local citizens needs to be improved.

So although you were hit "in the passage", this was not really "in the passage". Sorry Tim but I do think the passage comes in for a bit more stick than it deserves and I think your headline could just as easily read "Attack on Turnpike Lane".

Hi John - yes, literally, it was in the passage. Admittedly, I did just veer off from Turnpike Lane so I suppose my headline was literally correct but you're right, I hadn't intended to go down the passage at the time - I think it just meant I actually foolishly put myself in more danger but sadly I probably didn't think quickly enough and panicked!
Commiserations, Tim, on your recent misfortune - but I guess someone has to chair the TCA. I've heard the Youf sections of local Labour, LibDems and Greens have formed a Grand Coalition on the AV excuse for proper PR, so I reckon your path crossed with a proportionally representative trio of them the other night.
Thanks OAE. I appreciate the sympathy in your post. I suppose humour heals even if it's not terribly funny humour!

I think a little black humour, and you did mention your political affiliations, is not undue in this case. Good on you for being a good sport about it.

Thanks John. :-). Hope you're having a good Easter.
Tim, to be clear, my comment was meant as a general note, rather than being intended for you or anyone else in particular. The focus here shoud be on the incident. Politics can come later. All the best for your recovery.
Apologies Hugh. Thanks for your message.

It looks as if Tim is suffering a second attack - the first was for being in the wrong place at the wrong time ( Turnpike lane , 12.20 am ) and the second is for being in the wrong place with the wrong views ( HOL, Conservative ).

Not really. I have a huge amount of sympathy for him but he chose to attempt to make political capital out of his assault.
John D - I'm sure we're all entitled to our own views on here.
Sorry to hear about this Tim. I stick by what I have said previously - the passage is not only poo and vomit central, it's also dangerous, and should be closed.
