Wow, that's a rather overwhelming array of documents. Anyone looking for a quick overview should take a look at the Master Plan and Development Description . I hadn't realised that the existing recycling centre will go, as it'll become the car park. They have said that they'll have recycling facilities on site, but does this mean that for getting rid of larger items, wood, green waste, etc we'll have to go to Tottenham?
Thanks Paul, my sentiments exactly. so many documents I just went into freeze, still haven't checked the Master Plan, I just froze on the recognition that the recycling centre would go! I am devastated!! First the First the local sorting office for a TK Max, and now this....
Local sorting office to a TK Maxx? What a surprise. There won't be any local sorting offices left once the Royal Mail has been asset-stripped by its new owners. Thank you, Mr "pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap" Cable
It's alright everyone - the recycling centre is to be relocated to Tottenham Lane.
Phew!!!! I think I know the site where it would relocate near Tottenham Boys Club? In some ways if this new store does not cause to many problems to those in the properties needing vacation it may not be such a bad idea perhaps? Seems on the plans to be well set back from the high st and may take away some of the congestion on Green Lanes and in our local Sainsburies on Green Lanes which has become a nightmare!
Thanks Paul for the links. The maps are poorly presented, with no named blocks and no colour referencing to understand the written descriptions (esp re heights) ! But anyway here's some things I've noticed;
I stopped shopping on Hornsey High street when they fined me after changing signs and very confusing road markings. They then put paid parking everywhere. I am sure Sainsbury's will completely close the rest of the high street down ;-( Goodbye bakers, post office, flower shops etc, etc, etc.
I don't think a store this size will close down the High Street. Tesco hasn't. Green Lanes still has shops. When you speak to older people, they remember when the High Street had two supermarkets and a bank etc. At the moment very hard for shops to keep going. They could do with some extra trade. We lost an excellent and really interesting shop next door to Tesco last month.
Sainsburys will offer 90 mins of free parking, so you can come back!!
There are proposals to reopen Western Road for recycling, or to put a site off Tottenham Lane, but no, there will be a recycling centre on this side ofthe borough.
Does anyone know what the other buildings to be demolished are, other than the recycling centre? And what the consequences for these people, companies will be?
Are they knocking down the beautiful swimming pool building?
Afraid so, but it has been unused for generations. I suppose the question has to be, do we want to see development in the High Street or not? It is difficult at the moment for shops to survive down here - the wonderful art/junk/community space next to the Tesco is the latest to have folded. Some people are in favour, others not. I ran a campaign against a very large Sainsbury's with retail sheds (similar to Harringay Green Lanes) 18 years ago.This is a very different proposal, Sains only about 40% bigger than Sains Muswell Hill. And we know how badly we need housing.
