That shows the flower spikes, and the leaf shape. And it's classed as invasive - https://www.rhs.org.uk/weeds/docks

Thank you John D, I only knew docks as lowly leafy plants to be hoed out PDQ rather than the full monty plant with flower spikes.

Thank you both. That link is useful, Gordon. It suggests that this is a highly invasive species. As it happens, I did look at the seed heads earlier on and I wondered if I should chop them off. I think I’ll see if I can get across again tomorrow and chop them off.

Just seen this on the Friday mail out....

I think it's this specific type of dock, Rumex conglomatus Murray

Given the deep tap root might be worth a squirt of translocated herbicide.

To me those leaves look narrower than those of common dock. Another possibility is Himalayan knotweed (not Japanese!).

John, you had me at Rumex nepalensis, but comparing the images of that and the contender offered by Helen, I think Rumex conglomatus Murray has the edge - or is that my optimistic nature leaking out again!

I bought a new spay weedkiller after I last posted and I'll try and get over again and zap poor wee Murray.
