Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone know of a good, large garden centre in North London or beyond?

There's some decent obvious places like Homebase etc, and managed to find the Camden Garden centre which is rather nice...

But there's a few things I've been recommended, or might like to discover, that you'd probably only find in larger places. Anyone got any suggestions? I can drive outside if needs be, but would have to be a large one, or a good size one in North London would be good to know about...

Can't beat this place for sheer size & numbers (and sometimes prices) but you need a car to get there really:

Do you know of Crews Hill? A stretch of large garden centres off the A10, just outside of Enfield.

There is also another good nursery on Forty Hill called Clockhouse

www.clockhousenursery.co.uk.

When you have finished there you can pop across the road for a wander around Forty Hall and it's grounds (all free). Then have a cuppa after all that shopping!

Yes. Go up to Alexandra Palace from the Priory Road intersection, past the allotments on your left. First left is the Garden Centre. The entrance is opposite a bus stop. It's a fair size and there's a cafe there as well.
For Crews Hill, two trains an hour from Fins Park, takes 25 mins.  Not good for carrying sacks of compost perhaps, unless you buy a wheelbarrow too.
Definitely Finnegan's Nursery & Garden Centre at www.finnegansnursery.com in Silverbridge among South Armagh's rolling hills. OK, it's me brother's and it's a bit of a journey. But you did say 'in North London or beyond'.
I've used this one in the past, especially for trees. It's further out, but also features the tallest hedge in NZ; how they trim it, I don't know.
I like the nursery in Finsbury Park by the Manor House entrance.  Though I am not sure if they are open now or have much stock.  Unlike other nurseries, it is very personal.  I don't know the name of the guy who run the place mainly but if you get talking to him he sometimes give you cuttings etc.  Interesting selections of plants too.

That looks interesting and worth investigating.

A big thank you all - that's opened up a lot and am sure I'll work through them all over the next little while... (except maybe Finnegans Nursery, but good luck to your bro!)

Cheers!

Tim

I like Clockhouse too - much cheaper than the local ones as they are a proper plant nursery and grow much of their own stock. Good for shrubs, perennials and bedding plants. Nearby is Myddleton House Gardens, a Victorian plant collector's garden, which has a new visitor centre with really good cafe.www.leevalleypark.org.uk/.../myddelton_house/myddelton_house.as..
