Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

For those of you who didn't already know (and that would include myself) Holloway Road will be closed for three months from October 21 as part of works to redevelop Upper Holloway Bridge.

But a TfL spokesman denied that the closure is because the amount of work had been underestimated.

He told the Standard: “We are moving a huge amount of utilities and these are not mapped very well in London so it is hard to tell how much work there is going to be.

“The work was always due to go ahead over Christmas but rather than having single lane closures we will have to have full road closures.

“It is actually the period where the roads are most quiet because people go away over the holidays.”

The closures will be between Fairbridge Road and Wedmore Gardens and bus routes 17, 43, 263, 271 and N41 will be diverted.

It must be really hard doing work like this in London. Impossible not to cause at least some disruption.

And so it goes on - be lovely when it's all finished, but then I thought that thirty years ago when I first moved to London...

I wonder if it will still be possible to turn right out of Fairbridge Rd onto Holloway - one of my 'cut-through' (or as others might say less charitably 'rat-run') routes across town.

TfL's page about this says:

The work means the following closures are needed on the Holloway Road between Fairbridge and Wedmore Gardens:

Friday 21 (22:00) - Monday 31 October (05:00): Full closure
Monday 31 October (05:00) - Saturday 24 December (22:00): Southbound closure
Friday 18 (22:00) - Monday 21 November (05:00): Full closure
Friday 25 (22:00) - Monday 28 November (05:00): Full closure
Saturday 24 December 2016 - Monday 16 January 2017: Full closure

So it's bad, but it's not for a solid three months.  Or for five months - hey, we're experts around here!

Link to page here.  It has a map of the suggested diversion, from the Archway gyratory over to Tufnell Park and then back to the Nags Head (or vice versa). Boy will that five-way junction at Tufnell Park be gummed up.....

And here's yet another one: Highbury Corner has been a building site for at least a year, while the bridge over the North London line is being replaced piecemeal. TfL's page on that project says:

We are planning to demolish and replace the section of bridge over the London Overground North London line over the Easter 2017 period. (Easter Sunday is 16 April 2017.)

TfL's advice page is super-helpful in actually identifying Wightman Road by name, just in case anyone might otherwise be under the impression that it is a narrow residential street and incapable of carrying surplus A-road traffic:

Has Living Holloway been inaugurated yet?  Is there any experienced local Group capable of steering them through the redevelopment and its aftermath?
