hello - i have found a ww2 anderson shelter in my garden. very exited but wondering if its safe to walk over it and also would anyone want it - seems tragic to dig an important piece of ww2 history up. any ideas inf about these would be gratefully received.

Androulla. Did you ever open this thing up? What did you find? Any photos?
Not in any professional capacity, just intersted in them as a piece of local history. Also, I was reminded of it when I was speaking with my daughters Year 3 teacher a day or so ago as the kids are going to do a project and some work around WWII. It made me think of your post in Jan!
If you ever do open it up let us know, I think your back garden would be crowded!
Let us know what the plans for the summer are... I am sure you can find some builders who would love to dump their rubble in there!
..... not sure if its going to be any use to you as the top above ground bit has been hacked off? (many years ago it looks like). Id only be too happy for someone to try and remove it !! Not sure how private messaging works but you are welcome to message me !
.... and I'd love the change to open it up and see if there are any goodies inside - I was hoping before it was closed someone might have left gas masks or other things of the time in it - perhaps as a sort of time capsule.... but its going to take some convinving of the other half to go through the mess of remving it ... might not even be possible ??? who knows ... your garden sounds wonderful !
