Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

An Invitation from an Aussie descendant of the man who built The Salisbury

This in the mailbox today:

Hi All,

For what it’s worth I am heading to the Salisbury Pub on 22nd August for a beer and a meal. Well, I am really going to have a look at the place my great uncle built all those years ago.

My great grandfather was John’s Brother. I’m not a Hill, obviously. My grand mother was Eliza Cathles Hill she was born in Australia and was one of two children to Robert Scott Hill. Eliza Had five children, but only three survived the rigours of outback life in the 1820’s.The only surviving male was my father, and he checked out in 1986.

So if anyone is at the pub on the 22nd, I’d be happy to let you buy me a beer. 😊

See you in 3 weeks.

Dear Paul

I am a CATHLES.   Grand daughter of the Cathles who was in partnership with your John. They built a lot in this area including the Off Licence where I grew up in Wood Green. They also founded The London Brick Company which is still trading from its HQ in Fletton...

I have a number of nieces and great neices who have been building a familytree.

I regret I cannot get to the Salisbury but would love to meet you.  Perhaps you could see me at home (Bounds Green) while you are around.

Please contact me direct on dcathles@gmail.com  Maybe more of my family would come to meet you here. They don't live in London but not far away.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Dorothy Rynhold

Do you mean this off-licence, Dorothy?

Yes
