Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

ACCORDING to council records, there are 27 Allotments in our Borough.

These are administered under Council Parks and greenspaces and in turn, part of Leisure, Parks and Culture.

I can't recall any recent policy about allotments, but there may be reason to be concerned about their future.

Keen Allotmenteer Jeremy Corbyn MP recently criticised the government for agreeing to eight allotment sales elsewhere.

With our local council having a long-running theme of selling off public assets, and ready to see buildings seemly over any available green space, allotments could yet be vulnerable under the developing Borough of Culture 2027.

I hate everything about Corbyn's politics. However, I think he believes in what he says which is rare among those of his ilk and on this topic I think he is correct.

I would not want to see JC as PM largely due to his previous, if not current, views on NATO.

However, before the last General Election Jeremy Corbyn was among the three (only) candidates at the Islington Climate Hustings and I was much impressed.

Jeremy Corbyn stood as an Independent; the other excellent candidates who were present also spoke well: Sheridan Kates from the Green Party and Vikas Aggarwal for the Liberal Democrats.

There were few and minor differences between all three and great overlap between all those present.

Not present, were the climate-shy candidates from the now fading Labour and Conservative Parties.

Regrettably, the Labour Government and the local Labour Council have largely shelved climate policies. Is the Borough of Culture 2027 tempted to flog off any council allotments, one has to wonder?

Jeremy's letter in The Telegraph is here.
