Advice Re Swapping Halogen Spots In A Smeg Extractor for LED?
Hi, anyone got any advice as to how to change spot lights (currently halogens) in a Smeg extractor fan unit for LEDs? Had a look online and could not really find much guidance. Is it possible, and if so, are there LEDs that can do the job given the heat they will face?
Any thoughts welcome.

Careful if the current setup involves a dimmer switch - lots of LEDs won't work properly, or burn out in no time, with a dimmer switch.

It is just a standard on-off halogen, with the kind where you replace the small two pronged bulb, so no worries there. I did go into Medlock and the lady was a big vague- more because she needed to know what light was in there.
I have taken some pictures and will jog along to see what she says, but there is a remarkable lack of information on things like this. FPR's point about Middle Class Problems is a fair point- I will take that on the chin, but I would point out this is driven as much by principle (I work in the climate change area) than my social 'positioning'- though this post about my Birkenstock being eaten by a fox most certainly was a Middle Class Problem

You could also try one of the Ryness chain - they're reasonably technically aware. There's one on Camden High Street.

Thanks. I will check back with Medlock and see how I get on, but the Ryness link is useful.
I am pretty handy but I have to say I have tended to stay well away from electrics. It would be nice to do a basic electrical course as there are small things that I would like to be able to do safely (like change a light rose for example...) Better check the local 6th form out.

Why not take one of the existing bulbs along ?. Be sure you go to the back where they know what they're talking about, rather than the showroom where they don't.
Bear in mind that the halogens will probably be 240V, whereas the LEDs may be 12V and need a transformer.

If you go to what appears to be the 'trade' desk, which is open to all, at the back of Medlock's they will most certainly provide you with suitable replacement LEDs - be sure to take the old bulb with you. I recently had to order a couple from them for my outdoor lights - they had to be a certain size but were 240v!
On the 'middle class' stuff my political upbringing taught me this term was taken from what was known as the 'petite bourgeoisie' based predominantly on people who owned a large amount of the 'means of production' - small land owners and the like. I would suggest the term is now redundant and misrepresented - discuss, not sure I mean this! But hey saving the planet for future generations ain't a bad goal and one only likely to grow if the non-ruling class own it!

Thanks- As John points out the Halogens are 12V and I need to get the transformer out. If I am honest I am starting to move beyond my comfort zone already. Lets see though, it might be fairly straight forward...
