Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Two things I need some help on.

First, Curtain Repairs. Our heavy curtains are being torn apart by a heavy handed daughter. See pics below. Anyone know either if (1) I can repair these on a normal sewing machine (I am assuming not) or (2) who is able to do these locally, a shop or a person?

Second, Carpet Cleaning Hoover. My old neighbour had a hoover like thing that cleans carpets. Does anyone out there have something similar? I have spilt some soapy cleaning fluid over a carpet (in my cellar of all places) and this is the only thing I can think that will get it out- it is not going to dry and evaporate that is for sure...

You can hire a carpet cleaner from places like Homebase.

or tescos.

Yes, I know- we were looking at one to clean our carpets in the spring but I have about a 0.5m2 area that I need to work on that I would rather not have to start hiring something for. If I did I would start to feel obliged to do as much as I can with it, and it is just not the time of year to be starting cleaning big carpets. I am thinking more of a small sized one someone might have in their home and would lend me for an hour...  Thanks though.

Basin and scrubbing brush then

Yes, it may be- which is likely to be a  disaster because it will foam like mad..... The thing is, it was spilt because of my own stupidity, so I am fuming, soon to be foaming!

What I would do would be to get some branded carpet cleaner solution then get down on your hands and knees and brush into the carpet and then hoover. I have a large bottle of it if you want to try.
As for the curtains you just get a needle and thread and sew it by hand, its not difficult and both jobs should only take 5 minutes. If you want some help let me know.

Maggie, I will message you, got a couple of questions...

I wouldn't add more detergent to that already there
