Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Having had the racket from the accordion player under the railway bridge wafting into our garden all day as usual, I went out to catch the bus and found another one sitting outside Barlcay's Bank. I've also seen an accordionist outside the Salisbury this week.

I know people have to live, and I'm not against busking (I've done it myself!) but I don't understand how they are allowed to stand and play there all day long. It's not pleasant to have to listen to it non-stop, and I'm sure if they were begging they'd be moved on pronto.

How do you get perfect pitch with an acordian ? Straight into a skip without touching the sides.

I love the accordion players along Green Lanes, so much more enjoyable to listen to than the roar of traffic passing by.  I admit I can't hear it from my garden, and maybe it would annoy me if I did have to listen to it all day, but you sound like you're annoyed by accordian players generally even when they're not near your home.

part two: How do you get perfect pitch with an acordian ? When it lands on a set of bagpipes.

I'm a musician, so I can't 'tune out' music in the environment. I'd be perfectly happy to listen to well-played accordions out of choice (one of my best friends etc...). I'd find it equally annoying if there were people strung out along Green Lanes playing guitar and singing ALL DAY.  I can't understand why the police feel they 'cannot do anything about it' as surely busking is not strictly a legal activity.

Yes! well in that case we need more and lets make it BRASS !

FPR* When you say archway roundabout is the arsehole of london was the acordian player halfway up it ?

The female beggars intrigue me. They are all young, modestly dressed and merely hold a cup while keeping their gaze askance. They have a slightly middle class look about them and when spoken to act as if they do not understand. They are also quite poor at actually getting cash, so I suspect it is a kind of act of humility which they are required to undergo perhaps as a form of penance, but I'd like to hear from anyone with more info...

Note to self: (stop wasting the good jokes on this lot)

I liked your jokes, James. :-)

Were there jokes?

I might need to re-read the thread

Humorous remarks perhaps, but jokes is pushing it. Rather like the Irish traditional musician of note who was asked how the bodhrán should be played and answered 'with a knife'. And the old one 'A gentleman is someone who can play the accordion-but doesn't.....

Actually, the accordion well played is a fine instrument, but the guy on Green Lanes.....quail.......

I am now sick and tired of the Blue Danube waltz living as I do near Barclays bank. I hear it in my living room, I hear it everytime I walk past plus there are the other ones playing at the same time. It's become a constant presence- all day/evening. If it was an hour or two fair enough I really wouldnt mind but it's a regular thing. The older guy has more of repertoire, the girl at Barclays is very limited to one toon.

They must be making good money to stay there. Wonder if they give lessons? Oh, I only need to know how to play one song…
