Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
A quick visit to the Harringay Winter Festival
I took my sister in law down the way to have a look at the Harringay Winter Festival and have posted a few pics below.
It fel much more local than the main festival - do go down and take a looksee. I also caught the 1974 film "What's the Future for Haringey?" film showing in the old mobile cinema (though I let my sister in law off sitting though it!). Also worth a look. I was interested to hear that at the time the Council were pondering plans to demolish houses n Harringay and Crouch End to make local parks.
Thanks again to Rob, Andy and the others involved in setting this festival up.

Had a good time and loved the 1974 Future of Haringey movie on the mobile cinema. A real treat. Here's a few of my snaps on Flickr of Friday night and Sunday afternoon at the festival.

I popped in today - don't know if it was because of the chilly weather or maybe there were fewer stalls than Saturday, but it all seemed a bit spread out and quiet. The "ice" rink was well-attended, though.

We were there on saturday and felt it certainly lacked in Christmas cheer. at the very least there could have been a bit of Christmas music being played, whilst the food we sampled was mediocre and overpriced. I don't think the excuse of this being the first time will wash as they have already done two GL food festivals. overall we were not impressed, although my son loved running around the school playground.

They were playing Christmas music today. The food I ate was delicious. We had Creole food and paella as well as sampling Sardinian food of which we brought a big bag home. The kids loved the ice rink and the hot choc from the South Harringay Schools stall. I adored the mobile cinema and anyone who didn't make time to see 1974 Haringey missed a treat. I was pleased to see a big queue when I came out of people waiting to go in and the ice rink was at capacity for most of the afternoon. So, on the whole more positives than negatives for me.
It was rather quickly organised (in a month I think which is v short compared to the Food festival) and people must remember that the organisers are not 'professional' event organisers, they have jobs and businesses to run as well as managing this kind of thing. Anyone who wants to be involved would be welcomed as an awful lot falls on very few shoulders considering the size of Harringay.

I loved the mobile cinema and it was interesting to see the changes in Haringey from the 1974 documentary (and interesting to see that concerns with housing, employment, transport, have not changed). Good to see some familiar faces and I enjoyed a hearty curry and hot toddy.

The food from Muna's was excellent. The churros were lovely as usual but pricey (although my kids always pester me to buy them). The mulled wine was very good. The plastic ice-rink was a bit strange but for £2 a go with no time limit it was a bargain and my kids loved it. We were full of Xmas cheer on the South Harringay Schools stall.

My 4 year-old was enchanted with the 'cinema lorry' and it was a nice touch to put on the programme of animated shorts (despite the questionable 1930s short that featured white characters accidentally going 'sambo'...). Though word of this family programme hadn't reached the ticket desk at the bottom of Mattison Road who thought there was only the history programme. Ticket prices were confusing and everything basically seemed to be available for half-price with or without vouchers. Still it was a nice little event overall, with lots of tempting food on display. Hope to see it get bigger and better next year!
