13 - 17 October 2008
Local democracy week is promoted by the Local Government Association (LGA) as a way to try and raise awareness of Local Councils and the democratic process.
It is a national campaign and hundreds of Councils and thousands of schools are expected to participate.
To support the week Haringey Council has organised a series of events. These are:
* A young people’s question time to take place in Wood Green Civic Centre, which will be webcast.
* A series of mayoral receptions with local groups to raise awareness of the work of the mayor and to increase understanding of the democratic process in Haringey.
* The mayor will also be hosting school parties, who after a reception and talk, will be invited to use the council chamber to host one of their school council meetings.
* Haringey councillors will be undertaking a series of visits to local schools during local democracy week.
* The council will use a stall in Wood Green library to promote the London Council’s campaign 'Be a Councillor'. Visit the
