'Council speak' has been banned by
Harrow Council. Phrases such as "the public realm" and "civic amenity sites" are out and plain English has returned.
Thus 'crossing patrol officers' really are lollipop ladies and men, civil enforcement officers may now be known as 'traffic wardens' and 'stakeholder engagement' is now 'asking people what they think'
Hurrah for Harrow. I hope my happiness at hearing the news that one council at least has seen sense and started 'talking proper' again isn't some misty eyed hankering after simpler times. Do others agree that it is time for other councils to follow suit?
