This from Haringey Council's Website, Friday 29 February 2008:
Haringey Council has launched a search for residents, businesses and organisations who have gone the extra mile to improve the borough's environment over the past 12 months.
The council is now seeking nominations for its annual Better Haringey Awards, which aim to recognise outstanding environmental achievements and encourage others to adopt greener practices and lifestyles.
It could be an individual who's taken steps to cut energy at home, a school that's encouraged all of its pupils to recycle, or a business that's leading the way on reducing waste.
There are six awards up for grabs this year:
Sustainable School,
Greenest Public Sector Office,
Sustainable Streets,
Greening Your Home,
Sustainable Travel and
Green Business.
You can nominate online and find more information about the categories by visiting
www.haringey.gov.uk/betterharingeyawards.
And for the second year running, the awards on Thursday 5 June will form part of a wider Better Haringey Green Fair weekend.
The weekend, which takes place at the front of Tottenham Town Hall, N15, will include a special environmental education day for local schoolchildren and the main fair itself, open to all residents, on Saturday 7 June.
More details will be made available on the Haringey Council website at
