Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Drag queen or comedy ... Harringay's changing High St
Our High St if nothing else is very dynamic! The business offerings constantly evolve, particularly within the restaurant/bar sector. And they need to of course. Recently Blend brought in a pop up restaurant menu for the evenings. Some time back Brouhaha had done the same. Both have proved popular.
For Beans & Barley their shop has gone after just a year (as Harringay Local turns 2) and now they are looking for your ideas for entertainment based within their extended cafe area, with comedy a possibility. Board game evenings are another.
Now the restaurant Tramp is extending its offering from the occasional band night to cabaret, with a 'Young Drag Queen' act. It's not clear yet whether it will come with your mains or dessert but, it all kicks off at 9pm on the evening in question.
Whatever next? 
Interestingly, as Hugh's post shows, such shows were around in this area way back in the 60s.

Does this form of misogyny, being "a closeted gay thing" as you put it, somehow erase the hateful/damaging aspect (it was always intentionally misogynistic) and make it ok?
Light relief I welcome, I just prefer mine to be less hateful and hurtful to womankind. What a shame this kind of schizzle hasn't been consigned to the annals of time, but I suppose if you're going to do it you might as well do it on the most sexist street in the country!

He was a foul racist as much as he was as a foul misogynist. I mentioned him as an example of foul misogyny as regards this discussion. His type of comedy has rightly been assigned to history, such a shame that we still permit foul misogyny as long as the perpetrators are men wearing dresses, high heels and makeup.

So are you saying here that it's ok for one socially repressed/ marginalised group to mock another by way of appropriation, as long as (they feel) it empowers them? I'm struggling to think of any other scenario where that would be classed as an acceptable form of "entertainment". It's normally just called nasty bullying. It also says as much about those who defend it as those who perform it.
Thankfully this sort of thing is not so popular these days and many of the venues have closed down.

whichever one of you is doing it... I will make a polite request that you stop sending me the creepy stalky messages on twitter. It's bad enough that you have taken the trouble to track me down on there, I'm not aware that we know each other, and to sit and scroll through over a year of my tweets to post screenshots on here of a comment I made to nobody in particular then send the creepy messages.... weird!

The creepy messages were DMs and if you know anything about twitter you will know that you can accept DMs from anyone, which I have found useful in the past. I have now changed this setting as I can't be arsed with you, or your alter-ego, or whoever it is.
I don't need a sympathy vote, as I haven't said anything I don't stand by. As a woman who objects to ridiculing women as a form of entertainment I presented a reasoned point of view here but someone has chosen to go to great lengths to find out my identity, scroll through over a year worth of tweets, and vilify and harass me about something I said over a year ago (that has been misconstrued), which is really bloody creepy.
You, as a man, have no right to tell me how I should feel about this topic. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. It's pathetic that you have ridiculed me for saying I am a a feminist, can I ask why you aren't a feminist too? What exactly do you have against equal rights and fair treatment for women?
I don't care that you don't agree with me, but I do care about your creepy behaviour towards me. I will not be bullied by you or anybody else for that matter, and like I said if you would like to continue the discussion in person let me know, although I have a feeling you're not quite so bold when you're not hiding behind your keyboard.
Now, if you don't mind, I will bid you farewell because the snooker is on and I really can't be arsed with you any more.

What were you thinking? scrolling through over a year worth of tweets of a woman you don't know searching for something to use against her in a vindictive manner, in a discussion about misogyny of all places. Bet you thought you'd hit gold eh? Hang her out for public shaming, like they did in the olden days... Did it make you feel good? Shame you completely missed the point though, and only reinforced my opinion of nasty misogynists.
I have no wish to communicate with you outside of this forum either but my point was that if you are going to pick on me you should at least have the courage to do it in person. I'm not afraid of you, just so you know.
