Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Who has permission to trade and to place tables and chairs on the pavement on Green Lanes?

That was the question I asked of Haringey a few weeks ago and had a very prompt reply from them. As you can see from the list below, a number of shops who sell goods on the public footpath or have tables and chairs out have not applied for and and been granted permission. Also, the level of enforcement against those who do so without permission is pathetically low and all seem to have been done on a single day in September 2015. You also might notice that Haringey don't give permission for free standing A boards on the pavement. I passed three of these on Green Lanes just 20 or so minutes ago.

I've also attached the conditions for how goods are to be displayed when permission is given, its very clear that they can't just be propped up on milk crates and boxes.

With you on that one.
And while we're at it -- what about the over growing hedges plants and trees in people's front gardens. Some are so bad that they cover half the pavement .

I HAVE A LITTLE LIST as the song goes.
There is, if you look closely, a lamp post under this foliage. I have been trying in vain to get the council to replace the bulb, they say they can't and have logged it as an overhanging garden problem, I'm not holding my breath while they try to contact owner of said garden . . .

That's incredible.
The background reminds me of some of the ladder roads - swerving between hedges and trees.
Do you think the house owners could be prosecuted ? Restriction of pubic amenity or something.

When I lived on Langham Road, I badgered the Council about Estate Agents notice boards and got them all taken down. You need to be a cranky git with too much time on their hands but they DO respond, or at least when you phone them...

no shortage of those on HOL ;)

Hahahaha! funniest post I've seen for days!

Bun & Bar is the one that leaps out there. Enforcement action taken, no licence for tables & chairs and have a variety of chairs and tables outside. You would think that following on from the enforcement action there would be something to check that they then applied for a licence.

Obviously they're not the only one (there are probably more breaching the rules than complying), it would be interesting to know if any had applied for a licence but were turned down or businesses just don't bother. I wonder what the fine is compared to the cost of a licence?

Like I said earlier. Start with traffic enforcement dishing out daily fines of £120 . It wouldn't be difficult, they walk up and down the street daily. No extra cost to the council and think of the returns....

Yes I was also annoyed by Shef giving fulsome thanks to Green Lane Traders and our wonderful councillor Ali Ozbek for organising the Chistmas lights and Lanterns event. Even Arsenal got a mention but nothing of the real community who organised it and and all the community groups who took part.

Osbawn and Maggie - your wrong! If it hadn't been for GL traders the event wouldn't have happened.
Wouldn't have happened without those at Railway Fields the Community gardens the residents associations the councillors or a whole host of volunteers either.
But your Wrong to Diss Shef and his work behind the scenes.
Not sure why you're apologising to me . .I wasn't there and haven't commented on the speech that I didn't hear. I think your comments should have been directed to Andy H...

I agree Shef does a lot behind the scenes, and 'in front' too, however I am annoyed that no-one else got a 'look in', a mention, a credit apart from GL traders and Ali Ozbek for the event.

What about all the volunteers from, as you say, the "Railway Fields, the Community gardens, the residents associations, the councillors, or a whole host of volunteers" too, and the brass band, the choir, the lantern makers, the children, the 'security' for the parades etc.
