Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Right. Soapbox time. I am doing a straw poll. I know it it not very scientific as the folks on HoL are possibly not likely to have a phone at home, or even a mobile, but a question.

Has anyone ever used one of the phone boxes on Green Lanes? You, or anyone you know.

Just to remind you there are 7 between the Bridge and the Salisbury...

Last time was in the eighties.
Not only have I never used one...I've never seen anyone in one unless they were posting cards for masseurs. It really is time we got shot of these utterly useless, space munching eyesores.

Someone is making advertising revenue from them so they won't want to give that up.

That's not really a good justification for keeping them; particularly when you take the maintenance costs into account.

That's EXACTLY the reason most of them are still there! This is also the case for many others.

And here on Tottenham High Road we have successfully opposed the introduction of flashing LED ad hoarding screens on the New World phone 'boxes' that are due to replace the old ones and the bus shelters. It ain't Piccadilly Circus after all!

It is ALL about adverts, nothing else.

But when I looked at the phone boxes nearest me there was no advertising. Just loads of fly post's.

Only to have a pee

Once when I got my mobile snatched.

Once years ago when I locked myself out without a mobile.

There's a planning application to replace the one between Fairfax and Falkland and it includes plans for a digital screen.

That's one planning application I will oppose!

Errrr...no I won't!  Consultation period well and truly over.
