Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Till Monday* to Comment on the Biggest Changes Ever Planned for Harringay

*UPDATE: DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MONDAY - SEE END OF CLIVE CARTER COMMENT BELOW

A few weeks ago, I outlined what the site allocations plan will mean for our neighbourhood.

There are now just two days left to comment. I urge you to drop an email to the council (all contact info given at the bottom of this post. Just say what you feel. Don't worry about being articulate - at the very least just jot a few notes or sentences. I've done my best to summarise what the plan means locally on the post I linked to above. Whether your comment is in support or voicing concerns, let's at least be heard.

Just to show you how ineloquent you need to be, here's what I've just written in an email:

There appears to be a huge amount of development planned for the neighbourhood of Harringay (Sites S1-5 + various housing trajectory sites).  I share the concern of many locals that this will increase the local population by a significant percentage. If this is to be successfully achieved, it is essential that the proper local services are provided, including planning for public transport, traffic, education and health.

I would also hope that the developments can be planned in such a way as to benefit the existing local community. Simply adding high density housing will add little to the neighbourhood and may just be a negative influence for the existing community. A mixed development offering more than just high density housing might offer great opportunities. I would urge the Council not to simply fill the obvious 'empty' spaces with housing, but to work with the local community to plan a truly life and neighbourhood enhancing set of developments.

Finally, I am a great supporter of the warehouse community currently based on Site S2 and 3. I strongly urge the Council to ensure that the plan should look beyond immediate imperatives, consider the longer term benefits to the borough and find a way to accommodate this artistic community and their 'affordable' live-work spaces.

If you don't have time to write anything and you agree with anything I've written, just copy/adapt the bits you can use and paste it into an email to ldf@haringey.gov.uk.

Will do. Thanks for your reminder and all your work on this. You're right, this is important and people need to respond by tomorrow.

Well put Hugh.

I have posted the submissions from the Ladder Community Safety Partnership and the Gardens Residents' Association on HoL. You can use these as a template or pick and mix according to what you think.

Its vital people comment so please do take the time. At risk of repeating myself, these proposed plans, if finally approved, will comprise the statutory framework for development and it will be very difficult to stop things happening which you don't like. There will be an independent public enquiry in the autumn so every comment will count.

done.

Might anyone here know the cutoff TIME?

Particularly for the snap survey - still waiting for LBH IT to respond.

Thank You.

I WAS told "Monday", without a time.

However I assume that means at the end of office hours, 17:00 tomorrow. I wouldn't risk it later; there has to be a cut-off time at some point, but these could lead to big change in the built environment over the next few decades.

As with many LBH consultations, I do wonder about their sincerity, but we must be shown to be willing and make serious comment.

Particularly for the snap survey

Yes – and I for one would like to know if the data from the online questionnaire is later auditable – i.e. capable of being audited and for that audit to be published.

Just as Hugh has done, I would urge residents to consider responding.

Anne,

I sympathise with your response. I'm concerned about the basis of the proposal.

I will respond along lines similar to my previous comments on HOL [here] that contains a link to the paper I produced six months ago:

Direct link:  http://tinyurl.com/Rowans-Proposal (8.3mb PDF)

This is the Council's page for more information and responses to the consultation.

Anne, I agree with you about the flawed logic.

Though the 'tunnel' is depicted in one artist's hallucination as having the width of a street, it would be nothing like as wide in actual practice.

It would be unlikely to be able to cope with the effects of the council cabinet's new concerts policy to be inflicted on our park, that envisages several huge gigs over the summers, with 50,000 people at a go.

IMO, neither policy has been thought through properly.

I have now emailed in to LBH Planning, my formal comments to the Call for Sites Consultation that may interest you—attached. This is my personal response as a local resident.

Thanks for the reminder Hugh.  I have just managed to complete the online survey and also send an e-mail.
