Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

After spotting a single one of these birds for the first time five years ago, I noticed last week that a flock of them kept appearing towards dusk and spending time foraging on my grass.  They were very nervous and hard to snap but here are three shots.

Isn't it the Bird Birdwatch this weekend? Could be worth taking part. Thanks for sharing these  have never seen a red wing before.

Nice pictures. These birds don't look familiar.

I had a small flock of them in my garden a few years ago. Thought it was a one off visit. Great to see them back in the area!

Brilliant. We've had a couple in our holly bush in Wood Green. I believe they come over from Scandinavia & Siberia in the winter

A flock of redwings used to land on our neighbour's apple tree every January, around the time of the RSPB survey. No sign of them for the last couple of years, since the parakeets moved in

Fabulous! I'll keep an eye out!

The best place to see these beautiful but wary winter visitors is in Finsbury Park. There are often large flocks in the trees by the New River and also south of the children's playground. Yesterday morning there were at least twenty chattering loudly in the trees by the New River; they'll be around for a good while yet. Look out also for Fieldfares, their larger and less timid relatives with their striking grey "hoods" and spotted or streaked bellies. This morning I saw one in a neighbour's garden - the first time I can recall seeing one in our street - and that suggests that they are on the move and that snow north of London may have driven them south...

Thanks for the info HarringayBirder, will keep an eye out for the fieldfares as well
