Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

In another post a few days back Glyn from SNT mentioned that there had been a fatal traffic accident on GL - pedestrian and articulated lorry he said.

Does anyone know what happened, or whereabouts?

It was outside Yasar Halim - journal article here.
Well thats very sad....
Yep, it happened at the bottom of Warham Road, more or less outside Yasar Halim, where all the old folk seem run in to the road. Sadly, this old chap was not as lucky as most and was hit by a lorry and killed, more than that, we don't know.....very sad.
I'm always nervous when driving through between Yasar Halim and Iceland because so many pesdestrians zip in and out of the traffic, crossing between stores to do their food shop. Doesn't surprise me that this has happened.

Somehow this incident needs discussion at the up and coming Traffic meeting on the 23rd March, to highlight the sheer volume of traffic and the conflicts that poses with the many pesdestrians and cyclists also using the Grand Parade, Green Lanes.
"...outside Yasar Halim, where all the old folk seem to run into the road."
Shouldn't the old fools be confined to their homes, or preferably to a Generalised Old Folks' Home? Bloody lemmings!
I think Eddie's being ironic.

Eddie, care to respond to Bob's concerns?
Irony comes into the Primary Literacy programme, about Level 4 or 5. It's hard to survive without it through Year 6. I refer Bob & Bex to those excellent purveyors of Ladder literacy, N & S Harringay on Falkland & Mattison.
They should probably just use the predestrian crossings, handily located at either end of the block..
That is awful. So many people regularly cross green lanes wherever they feel like it without a second thought about finding a pedestrian crossing (me included - i cross at random places every morning to get to the bus stop). I guess this reminds you how dangerous a busy road like green lanes really is.
Thanks everyone, that's awful, poor guy.

Agree it raises issues that need more discussion, though short of a physical barrier between the road and the pavement (err, no thanks!) I'm not sure what more can be done - there is a proper crossing only a few yards away.
Well perhaps because the driver of the lorry was so close to the proper crossing he should have at least had his foot hovering over the brake ready to slow down...

Green Lanes does not need to be a dangerous road. It needs to be 20mph too.
Was he going fast? Maybe he was, but maybe he wasn't, let's not just jump to conclusions.
