Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Ok I am at my wits end. I went to Carphone Warehouse yesterday -- looking back that was probably by first mistake(!) -- to get a new phone and contract. I got signed up to an O2 contract and told that I would have a new phone in store to be collected today. I was given a temporary sim to be used in the meantime. The sim didn't work so I have been without a phone. No explanation as to why by either Carphone Warehouse or O2. The new phone wasn't there either. I am going to cancel the contract.

But I do desperately need a phone and to sign up with a decent provider. Has anyone got an recommendations as to where I should go. I won't be going back to Carphone Warehouse or O2 as both have been beyond useless!!!

tesco are very cheap and have good customer service. I recommend buying your own phone and going on a sim only contract.

Get a phone from Tesco, and get a Lebara sim card. Lebara use the Vodaphone network, and calls/texts to other Lebara numbers are free.

I've had mine for years, never a problem.

I'm looking to switch provider as I dont use the phone enough to pay for a monthly contract, though the £5 a month I currently pay BT as part of my broadband deal is bearable. Most minimum top-up deals have to be used up in a month. Three/3 has a top-up deal that doesn't expire as long as you make one call every six months so I'll prob switch to that when the BT deal ends.  No idea what their service is like.

I bought this phone from Comet in an opened box deal, cost about £50.

Of course if you use the phone a lot this is no help.

I recently went through this and switched to EE. I signed up through mobiles.co.uk and got a pretty good deal. In my case I went from a sim only deal and I bought an iPhone direct from Apple as that's the best value option in the long run. If you prefer to spread the cost they seemed to have some good inclusive deals.

Thanks Hugh. Are you happy with EE? I haven't been with them before

I switched to The Phone Coop last year. They are a cooperative, owned by their members. The service has been good. I also bought a Fairphone from them.

I have been with Vodafone for years and have been very happy with them
But after advice, I didn't take out a new phone wth them, but instead went to Camden and bought a expensive new Samsung which I wanted, and took out a monthly contract for £9 which gives me maximum data, minutes etc. Works out cheaper this way
Depends on what you want
But I get good coverage these days pretty much everywhere, apart from when I was in Dorset over Easter, where no one had coverage
