Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Cat support needed

I am looking for a local person who can help with my 13year old cat Gypsy. She has just been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and will need to take a tablet every day for the next three weeks. I can't explain how stressful this is as she seriously won't even let me near her to put flea ointment on her neck! At the vets she turns into the most placid subservient being. I'm looking to pay a confident cat lover who can come administer her drugs. Anyone up for it? I'm Muswell Hill, Colney Hatch Lane.

You can also get pill administers that are long contraptions that can help with giving tablets.

What about asking your local vet? Usually the vet nurses are willing to do something like this is being paid.
My local vet nurse does cat sitting..

Hi Becky, I'm vet nurse, I'm happy to help. I won't be able to come at regular hours because of my work shift but I can every now and then. The pill giver is definitely a good solution, your vet practice should be able to give you some.

Hi Becky. Sorry if this is a stupid question but have you tried wrapping it up in a bit of ham or fish or something else that she likes to eat?  I'm sure it depends on the cat and the tablet in question but I managed to get my cat to eat his tablets on his own without any fuss by doing that.

My brother had same problem - his vet recommended sitting pill on squirt of cheese from tube - worked like a dream for 4 years!¬

Hi Becky

One of my cats has to take a Vidalta tablet for her thyroid every other day, probably for the rest of her life.  It goes in her food.  Occasionally I find it left in the bowl when she's finished but then at the next meal it is generally gone.  If your Gypsy's finicky and picks it out of her food, another suggestion would be a spot of Marmite on the pill. Mine is another of those stroppy cats who is an angel at the vet, so I'm glad I'm not forced to administer it directly in her mouth.

Another word of advice if you end up needing to give her the medication long-term: pay for the prescription from the vet and then buy the tablets online.  You will save a small fortune.
