Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have a tricky one.. 

We have recently moved into a new house where the neighbors are tenants living in multiple rooms, including we think, the living room. We are not sure how many there are but they have constructed a space outside of the extension on the back of the house made of wood and bright blue tarpaulin where a couple of them sit most nights drinking/talking, although its never late into the evening. Naturally we are worried about the summer when we wish to sit outside our garden in the evenings... but even now its a complete eyesore .

We've checked the planning application requests and obviously one was never made so I want to lodge a complaint, HOWEVER we will be knocking down our current conservatory to extend our kitchen; although there will be no side extension so it should be pretty straightforward getting planning permission...  that is IF we then don't get the landlord trying to reject it based on our complaint.. 

Has anyone else experience something similar?

There are guidelines for permitted development, the process should take 6 weeks, so I would focus on this and your plans. Will you need a party wall agreement? If so a good relationship with your neibour will be key. This won't stop your extension, but may reduce the maximum area possible under PD rights. Seek professional advice through a local planner or architect, or speak to a principle planner at your local authority, they will give you an outline on guidelines from your drawings, but remember this in not absolute.

Sounds like the dwelling next door is exceeding council guidelines, it is a matter for you if you wish to report it, certainly other neighbours must have noticed it also.

We had an architect in on Saturday so awaiting the plans (expected this week) and then I will contact a planner at Haringey. 

I have already contacted my local councilor and she has just advised I complete the complaint form online...

Coincidentally, we have tried to get A2 over to see our property but I believe they are very busy so we are currently awaiting a response. 

I'm sure HoL'ers can message you their experience and advice also.

Also, the owner may not know about the extension?  there's one on our road, which is actually a roof terrace over the kitchen, people outside very evening in summer.  I'm just glad it's 10 houses down, makes my blood boil.  I'd say report to Haringey and check whther it is correctly licensed as a HMO.  This page may help http://www.haringey.gov.uk/housing/landlords/houses-multiple-occupa...

Langham Rd, I'd advise checking that it is licensed as a HMO. Another thread says that this will become mandatory later in the year for 2 storey houses
Yes, I checked the register and surprise surprise the address isn't listed..
Then you must report it. They will then inspect the property and will report any dodgy building to the relevant departments.
Out of interest, what happens if it's not a registered HMO?
It should go into the system, Haringey HMO team / officer will go round and inspect and the landlord will then have to get a license to comply. Took around 8 months in the case of the ( not the house mentioned above) house next door. It should be on the next edition of the register, but I have an email to say it's registered. The current register was published last year, and no date for the 2017 edition as yet.
I'm on Langham and O P is on Sirdar, but I'm sure the are a few around due to the councils lax/ overworked planning officers
Well how would the Council know if a house is an HMO unless someone tells them?
